Shock — what kind is this?
A complete hour you can teach cold. This is instructor material for a room full of students — not a solo practice scenario. Everything you need is on this page, and none of it needs an account: open it on whatever machine is in the classroom.
Open the kit
- Slides (.pptx)27 slides. Speaker notes on every one: purpose, what to say, what to ask, what to watch for, and the clock.
- Instructor run cardOne page, print it. The machinery only — what to open, what to press, where you are in the hour.
- In-room case set20 cases to project and work through as a class. Instructor-paced: no timer, no scoreboard.
- Student review sheetWhere the case set sends students at the end, so you don't hand out a second link.
What it covers
The four kinds of shock and how to tell them apart at the patient's side, built around interleaved contrast pairs rather than a sign list — two cases with nearly the same numbers and opposite physiology, back to back. Two retrieval checkpoints where the room commits before anyone speaks. An honest treatment of what the textbook still gets wrong. Montana scope of practice throughout.
The hour
| Clock | Slides | What you're doing |
|---|---|---|
| 0:00–0:07 | 1–3 | Open, break “shock = low blood pressure,” give the definition |
| 0:07–0:17 | 4–8 | Part one: the model, the compensation story, the stage change |
| 0:17–0:20 | 9 | Checkpoint — run the full cycle |
| 0:20–0:40 | 10–15 | Part two: the four kinds, one at a time |
| 0:40–0:47 | 16–21 | Part three: management, the two textbook corrections, Montana scope |
| 0:47–0:50 | 22 | Checkpoint — second cycle. Don't skip the revote. |
| 0:50–0:53 | 23–24 | Three traps, then hand off to the cases |
| 0:53–1:00 | case set | The case activity |
Both checkpoints run the same cycle: commit → discuss → you teach → revote. Hands up before anyone speaks — watching the room move on the revote is the point. Slides 25–26 are an optional pair; slide 27 is a reference slide you don't present.
Before the room fills. Open the case set on the projector machine and press Setup before anyone is watching: Core 8 rather than all 20, vitals shown with the case, answer buttons off. Settings stick on that device. If the wifi dies, the case set runs from a USB copy — it needs no network at any point. The full two-minute version is on the run card.
Looking for solo practice instead? The copy-paste practice scenarios are a different thing entirely — turn-by-turn cases one learner runs alone on their own AI, at every level from EMR to flight nurse.
