Instructor run card — Shock, 60 minutes

One page. Print it. Everything clinical is in the slide notes — this card is only the machinery: what to open, what to press, and where you are in the hour.

Before the room fills — 2 minutes

1. Open Shock_EMT_60min.pptx in presenter view. Every slide has PURPOSE / SAY / ASK / WATCH FOR / TIME in the notes. 27 slides: 1–24 are the hour, 25–26 are optional, 27 is a reference slide you do not present.
2. Open mtacutecare.org/shock on the projector machine. No sign-in, no account. If the wifi is dead: the page runs from a USB copy — open the file directly, it needs no network.
3. Press Setup (top right) and set it up before anyone is watching:
   • Core 8, not All 20 — eight cases is what fits the closing block.
   • Show vitals with the case — on.
   • Answer buttons on screen — off. Leave them off; hands go up, mouths say why.
   • Show the class vote bars — off unless you plan to use them.
   Press Done. Settings stick on that device, so this survives a reboot.

The hour

Both checkpoints run the same cycle: commit → discuss → you teach → revote. Hands up before anyone speaks. Watching the room move on the revote is the point.

The minute-24 marker is your pacing check. You should be starting slide 12 at 0:24. Ahead of it at the end? Slides 25–26 are the optional pair; take them after 24. Behind it? Skip them — they are optional by design, and the two checkpoints are not.

Running the cases — 0:53–1:00

One button, bottom of the screen, always in the same place. Its label says what pressing it does, and it cycles through exactly three states:

Show the answer → Next case → → Start over (on the last case)

• Space, Enter or → does the same as clicking it. ← goes back a case. Esc closes Setup. If you turned answer buttons on, 1–4 pick a category.
• The reveal scrolls itself into view. You need not touch the mouse once you start.
• Set the rule out loud before case one: they say what made them choose, not just the category.
• There is no timer and no scoreboard, deliberately. Say so. If they race, slow them down — the argument is the point.
• Cases 1 and 2 will look similar, and so will 3 and 4. That is deliberate; tell them so. Do not reorder them and do not put a case in between.
• At the end the tool points students to the review sheet. You do not need to hand out a link.

If something goes sideways

Wifi dies	Run the page from the USB copy. It needs no network at any point.
Back row can't read it	Setup → vitals Hide puts more of the case on screen.
Room is silent	Turn the class vote bars on in Setup. Voting is easier than speaking.
Running out of time	Stop mid-set. The core 8 alternate, so any prefix of them still works.
“This one has two right answers”	On one case they are right, and the tool says so on the reveal. Let it be the discussion.
